Friday 2 October:

Something of a depressing start to the day… I didn’t go dawn walking because Moira and I had booked a Co-Wheels car and were intending to drive to Berrow beach (despite the awful heavy rain)(originally, we’d booked to go to Dyrham Park but thought it might have been too muddy!). We got our lunches and waterproofs all sorted and went to collect the car (in Osborne Road), only to find that it was an automatic. I’d never driven an automatic in my life and decided that I just didn't feel safe to drive an unfamiliar vehicle – especially on the motorway and in heavy rain. So sadly, we decided to give it a miss and returned home (I felt embarrassed and pretty awful). Fortunately, Co-Wheels were happy to refund our money… but it was all very disappointing (and, in these strange days, neither of us felt comfortable about ‘popping out for lunch’ anywhere as a substitute ‘treat’).
I spent some time first thing trying to re-write/edit my re-ordering notes for Lee… and also added my concerns about there was the enthusiasm/desire/energy within the church community to pursue things?
Decided to watch a film on iPlayer in the afternoon (Tinker Taylor Soldier Spy, 2011)… enjoyed it, even if I couldn’t understand what was happening half the time! Scribbled a quick sketch of some lilies on their last legs.
‘Repair Shop’ and Mary Beard in the evening, before early bed and my new book (‘Under The Frog’).
